Terry began his career in the financial planning industry in 1987 following a decade of service as a Lutheran minister. As a Certified Financial Planner™ for over 15 years, his professional leadership has been recognized by American Express, where he received the prestigious Chairman’s Award for Quality during his tenure as a Senior Financial Advisor, and by AIG/SunAmerica Securities, where he was appointed to the President’s Club. Terry’s financial columns have been featured in the Modesto Bee, Stanislaus Farm News, San Joaquin County Farm Bureau News, and the Northern California Senior Spectrum. He is regularly invited to speak on financial topics at educational institutions, churches, service and professional organizations. In addition to his role as a Managing Director of United Capital Financial Advisers, Terry has served in many national positions, including the United Capital Advisory Council, the AIG/SunAmerica Securities’ National Education Committee, the Conciliar Press Board for the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, and the Liturgical Conference Board. Locally, he serves on the Stanislaus County Treasury Oversight Committee, as a member of the Modesto Rotary Club and as a past treasurer for the Doctor’s Medical Center Foundation Board. Terry was born and raised in Sacramento and holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. He is married with three sons and four grandchildren.

Chris specializes in personal financial planning including investment advisory services and retirement, education, and estate planning. Chris received his Certified Financial Planner® designation in early 2006 and has taught financial management courses for corporations nationwide. He was born and raised in Indianapolis and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in Economics and Political Science and has spent his entire career in the financial services industry. Chris joined United Capital's family of regional offices in 2005, working out of Bethesda, Maryland office. He and his wife, Beth, relocated to Modesto in early 2008.
Valerie Hurst

Valerie brings over 10 years experience in insurance and financial services, as well as 15 years experience in the Health Insurance industry, to her role as Case Manager for United Capital. She previously owned her own business, and served as President of the local chapter of the National Associate of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). She is a graduate of Stanislaus State University with a degree in Psychology, and holds her FINRA Series 7 & 63, as well as Life and Health Licenses.

Sheri Gonzales serves as United Capital’s Administrative Manager and has over 15 yrs. experience as an Administrative Assistant. She has managed the front office operations and client scheduling since joining the firm in 2004. Sheri and her husband David have one daughter, Kelly, and have lived in Patterson for six years, relocating from the Bay Area. Sheri enjoys interior decorating and loves to go shopping.

Candice Fernandes is the Practice Manager for United Capital. Candice enjoys working in a full service financial firm and approaches everyday with a team spirit and strong focus on client service. Her 30 years of administrative experience and emphasis on organizational and communication skills serve her well in overseeing day-to-day operations of our local office and integration of operations with the home office. Candice and her husband, Charlie, reside in Ceres, CA.
